With over 25 years of nursing experience, Riikka brings deep expertise, compassion, and leadership to her role as Nurse Manager. She began her career in 2000 after graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing from Helsinki Polytechnic Stadia in Finland, before moving to Scotland as a newly qualified nurse.
Riikka spent her early career in the private sector, working for seven years on a surgical ward where she developed broad clinical skills across multiple specialties, with a particular passion for gynaecology and women’s health. A strong advocate for women, she has consistently championed high-quality, empathetic care throughout her career.
In 2007, she transitioned into fertility nursing, building on her senior experience while further developing her clinical expertise, including performing fertility ultrasound scans.
A return to Helsinki, Finland, for family reasons saw Riikka further deepen her experience at the local public sector hospital, working across gynaecology outpatients and IVF services.
During this time, she gained additional qualifications, including Nurse IV Sedationist, and broadened her practice to support diverse patient groups, including transgender individuals and young people living with HIV.
