Dr Karolina Skorupskaite Carlyle is a Consultant in Reproductive Medicine and Gynaecology and founder of Genus Fertility.

She has dedicated her career to helping individuals and couples achieve their hopes of parenthood through evidence-based, personalised fertility care.

Following subspecialist training in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Dr Karolina has held consultant and clinical leadership roles across NHS and private fertility services in both Scotland and England.

Her expertise spans fertility treatment, reproductive surgery, fertility preservation and the management of complex reproductive conditions.

A Personal Approach to Fertility Care

Every fertility journey is unique.

Dr Karolina believes that successful fertility treatment starts with understanding the individual behind the diagnosis. Rather than applying standardised treatment pathways, she works closely with each patient to develop a personalised plan that reflects their medical history, fertility goals and individual circumstances.

Her approach combines the latest scientific evidence with compassionate, patient-centred care, ensuring patients feel informed, supported and empowered throughout every stage of treatment.

Why Dr Karolina Founded Genus Fertility

Throughout her career, Dr Karolina has had the privilege of helping individuals and couples through some of the most important moments of their lives. She also saw how fertility treatment can sometimes feel impersonal, fragmented and overwhelming.

Dr Karolina founded Genus Fertility to create a clinic centred around the patient experience – one where every treatment plan is personalised, every decision is evidence-based, and every patient has direct access to experienced fertility specialists throughout their journey.

Her vision was to combine exceptional clinical care, advanced reproductive technology and genuine compassion in an environment where patients feel informed, supported and empowered from their very first consultation.

Equally important was creating a culture where our team feels valued, respected and proud of the care they provide. She firmly believes that when healthcare professionals are supported to work collaboratively and deliver the highest standards of care, patients receive the best possible experience.

Genus was built around that philosophy – excellence in patient care starts with excellence in the team delivering it.

Research, Innovation and Education

Dr Karolina completed a PhD at the University of Edinburgh, investigating the role of kisspeptin and neurokinin B in human reproduction.

Her research contributed to advances in reproductive medicine and formed part of the wider body of work from the University of Edinburgh that was recognised with the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education, one of the highest national honours awarded to UK universities.

Her work has been published in leading international journals, including The Lancet and Human Reproduction.

Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Karolina remains actively involved in national guideline development, professional education and fertility policy through the British Fertility Society. She has published the British Fertility Society Policy and Practice Guideline on the management of patients with endometriosis undergoing assisted reproductive treatment and is currently contributing to the development of national recommendations on fertility preservation in women with endometriosis.

As a recognised expert in endometriosis-related infertility, she regularly lectures nationally and internationally on fertility preservation, reproductive surgery and the management of complex fertility conditions.

Leadership and Professional Roles

Dr Karolina is actively involved in shaping fertility care through national leadership, guideline development and education.

Alongside these national roles, she has led specialist services in endometriosis-related infertility and fertility preservation within NHS fertility centres in Edinburgh and Glasgow, helping to develop care pathways for women with complex reproductive conditions.
